Hector has been heavily involved in theatrical lighting design since his sophomore year of high school. Although he has explored several other aspects of technical production, such as scenic design, music production, and projection effects, lighting design has always captivated him most.

CURIOUS INCIDENT

Opening scene of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Uses dramatic specials to depict a bloody crime scene and Christopher's internal fear. Colorful but dim lighting is used on background characters to emphasize the importance of downstage action.

GAME OF TIARAS

Playful lighting used for after-show bows. Makes use of animated moving lights and gobos. Vibrant color is added for a more pleasing look, but front lighting remains bright and natural.

CURIOUS INCIDENT

A mixture of specials, gobos, and sidelights help make Christopher appear as if he is floating in space, fascinated with the wonders of space exploration as he daydreams. The look transforms the stage into a jaw-dropping visualization of Christopher’s imagination.

ALICE BY HEART

Dr. Butridge (transforming into The Jabberwocky) sings "Brillig Braelig" with a dramatic dance number, complete with various background dancers. Sickly green and red hues are utilized to emphasize disease, disgust, and cruelty.

CURIOUS INCIDENT

Sorrowful, yet intimate lighting is used to depict Christopher and Ed’s damaged relationship. Frontlight is excluded to exaggerate the actors’ silhouettes.

ALICE BY HEART

As torn papers fall from the sky, the lighting gradually tints them to a sorrowful purple hue. The design took into account the actors in the background - making sure the purple light does not spill onto them.

GAME OF TIARAS

Ariel's underwater solo. Uses colorful lighting to make the scene look as if it is underwater and bask the princesses with well defined silhouettes.

CURIOUS INCIDENT

A moving light and its two gobo wheels were used to reproduce the look of light being occluded by outside tree branches.

ALICE BY HEART

Although the scene is somewhat basic and empty, warm lighting adds a gentle hint of color to express the tone of the scene and contribute to the feeling of emptiness by significantly decreasing the intensity of light in the background (maintaining the scene's signature red color palette).
